Stranger in the Storm

The rain was pounding on the roof of the car. To Letitia, it sounded like the apocalypse was coming.  By the sound, she knew that she would have to find real shelter soon. She pulled over into  the parking lot of a nondescript office/medical building, parked, then ran under the covered entrance. There was another woman there, pacing and talking on her phone. Letitia tried the door, but it was locked. She looked back and thought of running to her car, but trash had started  to fly around in the air outside the entrance, between her and her car. She was stuck with a stranger.

Letitia was picking up some serious emotions of annoyance and worry from the woman. The woman's emotions were making Letitia anxious as well. This, compounded with the ever-present stress stemming from Cece's plan and her attempts to get Letitia involved, not to mention the raging storm and Letitia's soaking hair, was making for a not-so-great day in Letitia's book. Her thoughts of her problems were  soon distracted by the stranger's conversation.

"No, I know. Listen, I just told you, I can't be there yet. This storm is crazy! Traffic isn't moving an inch, and I'm stuck in an office building... I know... As soon as I can. I'll get it to you then... God, just give me time... Ok."

As the stranger's conversation ended, she looked at Letitia and noticed her staring. There was something about her eyes... Letitia felt darkness and pain inside her. Letitia felt tears coming to her eyes, but then blinked and glanced away.

"What are you looking at?"

"Nothing... just wanted to... say hey since we're kind of stuck here together for right now?"

"Then hey. Who are you?"

"I'm Letitia. What's your name?"

The woman said shortly, "Violet Cortez." Violet didn't seem to want to chat. Letitia looked down and Violet looked out towards the storm, then Letitia felt her feelings get much worse suddenly. Steam was hissing from a car in the parking lot. Violet ran out into the storm to the trunk of her car, which had been severely dented by a particularly large piece of hail. Letitia watched her bang at the truck until she turned around and looked straight at Letitia again, unnervingly.

"Come here! Right now!" Letitia didn't want to go into the storm but the woman's voice was so commanding. Violet grabbed boxes and hurled them at Letitia and yelled at her to get them under the entrance. As Letitia ran through the pouring rain and hurling hail, the tops flew off the boxes. Letitia ran faster and threw them on the ground, only to see bags and bags of white powder and other strangely labeled packages inside. Letitia suddenly felt the emotions near her get even worse as Violet, running into the entrance, saw Letitia and the open boxes. She walked slowly towards Letitia.

"You don't see anything right now, okay? You don't see one single thing. You open your mouth just the tiniest bit, and you'll pay. You know Mr. Evans? What happened to him will happen to you if you say one single word."

Letitia nodded, the tears in her eyes starting to spill.

"Girl, don't cry. Lemme give you some advice. Don't cry, don't trust no one, and don't ever, ever open your little mouth. Now drive away right now, and remember: you didn't see anything."

  1. On the elevator, there was a woman who seemed to have an unusually glowing aura. It looked like she knew me. Maybe I knew her in a past life. However, I didn't care. If she did know me, she had to die, end of story. She got off right before I could read her mind. Shame. If she ever shows up again, I’d take care of her.

Ryan Lochte?

"So at that point I'd tried everything. I'd been on TV, had my own TV show, received many medals... I was riding high." Ryan Lochte's face wasn't showing a lot of emotion as he talked. It was somewhat similar to watching a lecture from the most boring teacher. The kind of teacher that could make true crime and campfire stories into a fairly efficient lullaby. Who put him up there on the stage? "At that point I was at the height of my fame. I thought everybody knew my name. I spent most of my time training, but I appeared on lots of TV shows and I got calls from interviewers and sponsors and my manager was loving it. When I floated the idea for my own TV show, no one thought I could do it. But I told them that I was going to be successful. That's the only mentality that works. It's how I get through any competition or anything. Anyway, my stereotype has always been a "dumb jock" so I wanted to prove them wrong. I wanted to be able t...

My Wishes

That night I was laying in my bed, sleepless. I had been tossing and turning for hours. My earlier interaction had practically strangled me. My new resolve to better manage my emotions was working, but it definitely wasn't easy. Cece had pulled me deeper and deeper into her plan, and I was now fully entrenched. I had started to hide bags and boxes deep in the storerooms of my vet clinic. Among bags of litter and medical supplies for two, four, and even three-legged creatures, there were a few inconspicuous cardboard boxes that contained carefully measured dime bags of snowy powder and large bags of budding green. I had been storing it and measuring it for her, in dark nights briefly illuminated by white-blue fluorescence and surrounded by the soft rustling of the animals in the next room. However, we'd both agreed that Cece would do most of the face-to-face interactions. She didn't know about my new resolve to be stronger and braver, so she still thought that I would brea...

Cece's Plan

Letitia walked through the door of her office and was greeted by a few barks and a couple meows. She was a vet. Animals were sometimes so much easier to understand than humans. She loved how they could be happy with the simplest things, like a ball or a walk. If Cece could be content with just a ball, Letitia would have a few less problems in her life. Cece owned her own karaoke bar, which Letitia thought was an achievement all on its own. Cece, however, didn't think the same. All Cece wanted was to get invited to one of Griffin Crimson's parties, get rich, and live a "big" life. "Hey Letty, you got Cece on the phone for ya." June, Letitia's assistant, held out the phone and shook it slightly in Letitia's direction. Cece always knew how to make an entrance. Of course she would call just as Letitia was thinking about her. Letitia took the phone and put it to her ear. "Hey Letitia, girl, we need to get out of this place. Someone shut that wom...
